Construction Safety Officer (CSO) Training Program – $1000 (8 days)
This comprehensive 8 day program prepares individuals to become competent Construction Safety Officers (CSOs) by providing both foundational safety knowledge and practical skills essential for ensuring workplace safety on construction sites. The program combines regulatory knowledge, hazard recognition, and hands-on safety management techniques to equip participants for the diverse responsibilities of a CSO.
What You’ll Learn
- Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) regulations and the Workers Compensation Act
- Roles, responsibilities, and legal obligations of a Construction Safety Officer
- Hazard identification and workplace safety reporting
- Safe use of fall protection equipment, scaffolds, cranes, rigging, and traffic control
- Lock Out/Tag Out (LOTO) procedures
- Excavation and shoring safety practices
- Electrical safety and protection of utilities on-site
- Confined space awareness and industrial hygiene
- Respiratory protection and PPE use
- Bullying and harassment prevention in the workplace
- Communication and leadership skills to promote a safe work environment
- WHMIS 2015 and hazardous materials management
- Practical safety management including conducting inspections, site hazard assessments, and safety meetings
National Construction Safety Officer (NCSO®)
NCSO is a professional designation recognized by all provincial and territorial construction safety associations across Canada — members of the Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Associations.
Individuals certified under the NCSO designation will have demonstrated the skills to:
- Assist management to implement, maintain, and monitor a company’s health and safety system.
- Review and identify various health and safety issues specific to the work site and company operations.
- Communicate effectively with government, occupational health and safety officers, management, and workers regarding all aspects of health and safety.

Course Logistics
- Application Process: Self-paced, allowing applicants to schedule courses individually based on availability.

- Safety Proficiency Assignment (SPA): Completion of a SPA is required, consisting of:
- Hazard Assessment Report
- Incident/Near-miss Investigation
- Safety Meeting/Toolbox Talk
- Site Inspections
